Please join the National Center to Advance Peace for Children, Youth, and Families for a future focused conversation around the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and the critical role that American Indian and Alaskan Native children hold regarding the sovereign status of Tribal Nations.
We will hear from two long-term advocates, Tami Truett Jerue with the Alaskan Native Women’s Resource Center (AKNWRC) and Gwendolyn Packard with the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC), both who played instrumental roles regarding the passage and implementation of the ICWA— including as advocates in the gender-based violence space. Caroline LaPorte will facilitate this conversation and participants will be invited to share their own thoughts and experiences.
The goal of this conversation is to elevate the field’s understanding of why the Indian Child Welfare Act, as federal legislation, is essential to the future of Native Nations— and why the best interests of Indian children are distinct.
This webinar is supported by Grant 90EV0531 from the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families.
