Wondering how to file a CPS complaint in Montana?

Start by trying to resolve the issue informally. If still unresolved, you can file a formal complaint with your regional Child Welfare Manager. See Q&A below for more detailed information.

Preparation
Are there any steps that must be taken prior to filing a grievance?

Start by:

  1. Contact the worker or supervisor handling your case
  2. Contact the Child Welfare Manager in your division
  3. Contact the Regional Administrator in your area
  4. ontact the Field Services Manager 406.268.3770

 

Then proceed to formal complaint process if unresolved.

What information and documents are required in order to file the grievance?

Formal Written form must be completed prior to appointment with Child Welfare Manager.

Submission
How and where to file the grievance?

You can file a grievance by completing a Formal Written Complaint Resolution Form. To submit the form, you may do so in person by making an appointment with your local (regional) Child Welfare Manager. You may also mail the complaint form.

You may also call Montana Child and Family Services for assistance.

The complaint will continue through the review process. Keep in contact with the Child Welfare Manager on your case.
